A.B. Quintanilla was in a band called Los Kumbia Kings with Selena’s husband Chris Pérez

In 1999, Quintanilla formed a band called LosKumbia Kings with Pérez. Their debut album was certified gold and earned them a Grammy nomination for Best Tejano Performance. They released a total of seven albums, one of which was a live record, until the group—which had gone through numerous lineup changes—disbanded in 2006. In 2006, Quintanilla and Pérez teamed up once more to form Los Kumbia All Starz.

Selena’s brother is still releasing his own music

In 2016, Quintanilla formed a new project, Elektro Kumbia, releasing single “Piña Colada Shot” in 2017.

He’s also a music producer

In addition to his own bands, Quintanilla is also a prolific music producer, working with artists including Thalía. He’s had songs featured in Fast & Furiousand The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants soundtracks.

A.B. Quintanilla has been married twice since Selena’s death

Since Selena’s death, Quintanilla has been married twice (making five marriages total). In 2011, he married longtime girlfriend Rikkie Leigh Robertson. They divorced in 2016. He married his fifth wife, Anjelah, in September 2019.

A.B. Quintanilla has eight children

Quintanilla has eight children total. He has two sons, Svani and Gianni, and six daughters. He has no children with Robertson nor with current wife Anjelah.

A.B. Quintanilla was briefly on Texas’ Most Wanted list

In August 2017, PEOPLEreported that Quintanilla was on the Texas Top 10 Most Wanted list. Quintanilla was reportedly wanted for contempt of court and nonpayment of child support. At the time, it was unclear how much he owed nor to whom. Later reports indicated he agreed to pay $87,000 of back child support, plus attorney fees and medical expenses. He was briefly jailed but released on appeal on Aug. 30, 2017. At the time, the judge in his case told him, “I cannot make you a dad. I cannot make you an emotional father. I cannot make you emotionally there for your son. I cannot make you physically there for your son. But I can make you financially responsible for your son and that is what I’m going to do today.”

He’s still incredibly close with the rest of the Quintanilla family
