Opening with a shot of the titular antihero in a tank, we see Pierce Brosnan’s Dr. Fate muse, “Black Adam. What have your powers ever given to you? Nothing but heartache.” Johnson’s Black Adam recalls how he was a slave and reborn as a god upon his death—and how his son sacrificed his own life to save Adam’s. “Now,” Adam says, “I kneel before no one.” We also see a brief glimpse of Noah Centineo’s Atom Smasher, as well as Aldis Hodge as Hawkman confronting Black Adam, telling him that there is a difference between heroes and villains and that heroes don’t kill people. Black Adam’s response? “Well, I do.” Showing his power, Black Adam is seen to be bulletproof and effortlessly catches a rocket. The film, which hits theaters Oct. 21, 2022, also stars Sarah Shahi (Sex/Life) as Adrianna, Marwan Kenzari (Murder on the Orient Express) as Ishmael, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone and Bodhi Sabongui as Amon. Johnson also shared the trailer on his Instagram account, captioning the clip, “This passion project has become my DNA and the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe will change. The world needed a hero. It got BLACK ADAM⚡️ Rage.” Johnson previously told Men’s Journal of the character, “In the traditional DC Universe, as we all know, if you do something wrong Superman and Batman are gonna try and bring you to justice. If you do something wrong to Black Adam, you’re going to die. It’s that simple. I believe this character is going to bring a unique edge to the superhero genre. We’re gonna be turning preconceived notions on their ear.” Next, check out our favorite movies from Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and his Jungle Cruise co-star Emily Blunt.
