He’s funny, always up for a chance to #FreeBritney, and was a bright spot for a lot of people during the COVID-19 pandemic. But the truth is, he’s had his own struggles too. “The past year has been tough for everyone,” he told Parade.com in an exclusive interview to talk about Peloton’s recent collaboration with Adidas. “We’ve all faced our own set of challenges and hardships—and that’s true for me, too.” Below, Rigsby opens up about how he stays positive, his top three self-care secrets and the importance of making time for yourself. Read below for his best life tips!
How Cody stays positive
“In my classes, I’m always thinking about our members on the other side of the camera—someone who might be struggling and really needs my class as an escape. That always motivates me to be a source of light and positivity when the cameras are on. But I’m not always positive. I have tough days, I go through rough patches—we all do. But I allow myself to feel it and process it. Giving yourself the time and space to work through tough emotions, whatever they are, is so important. A little grace can go a long way.”
Cody’s top 3 self-care secrets
“For me, self-care needs to be emotional, mental and physical. Emotionally, meditation allows me to tap into my emotional strength by confronting my thoughts and feelings. Mentally, journaling helps me figure things out in my head by actually taking the time to write it down. Physically, I’m doing workouts that push my own boundaries, but also balancing that by taking time to recharge and fill my cup outside of my workouts. Those three things define self-care for me.”
His advice for making time for you
“Everyone needs to carve out time for themselves every single day. We give so much of ourselves to other people all day long— family, friends, your boss, co-workers, the list goes on. But you need time for YOU. Just for you. Dedicate a block of time and protect it. Maybe it’s five minutes, maybe it’s an hour. And do whatever you need to do to fill your own cup. Maybe it’s a workout (yes, you can work out even if you only have 5 or 10 minutes), maybe it’s a walk outside, maybe it’s catching up on your favorite TV show. You need that time, you’re worthy of that time and you owe it to yourself.”
His new hobbies
“Recently I’ve really gotten into anime. I’ve been binge-watching Full Metal Alchemist and Doroheedoro to name a few. Something about animation brings me joy and makes me feel like a kid. I am a firm believer in leaning into your inner child as a place to escape.” Next, funny Peloton memes and tweets!
