This year, the winners have finally been crowned, and there were some pretty hilarious moments captured in nature throughout 2022. The organization released the results on its website, along with the story behind each photo. Winning the overall prize was a photo titled “Not so cat-like reflexes,” taken by Jennifer Hadley from the U.S., which depicts a young lion having an unfortunate collision with a tree. But don’t worry, the cub is totally fine. Hadley explained, “This 3-month-old cub and his sibling were in a tree. The other lionesses were in other trees and on the ground. He wanted to get down and walked all over the branches looking for the right spot and finally just went for it. It was probably his first time in a tree, and his descent didn’t go so well. He was just fine, though, after landing on the ground. He got up and ran off with some other cubs.” The awards also have a few other categories, including Alex Walker’s Serian Creatures of the Land Award–which Hadley also won with his photo of the cub–the Spectrum Photo Creatures in the Air Award, the Creatures Under the Sea Award, the Affinity Photo 2 People’s Choice Award, the Junior Award, and the Amazing Internet Portfolio Award. For the Spectrum Photo Creatures in the Air Award, a French photographer named Jean Jacques Alcalay won with “Misleading African viewpoints 2,” which they described as “Hippo yawning next to a heron standing on the back of another hippo.” The rest of the winners include a few toothy fish getting a close-up look at a camera, a penguin giving his friend a hand, an owl winking, among others. The 2022 Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards also honored 10 more amazing photos labeled as “Highly Commended Winners.” Check out the unbelievable photos on the 2022 Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards website now, and maybe you can capture your own funny moment in nature in 2023!
