With the dress code stipulating morning suits for the men, Prince William was in his formal finest: a top hat and tails. Meanwhile his wife Duchess Kate was a breath of fresh air in a mint chiffon dress. The pastel dress features a high ruffled collar, a row of fabric-covered buttons down the front, a flowy skirt and puffed sleeves. She accessorized with a dramatic hat in the same minty shade as the dress, which is similar to the yellow hat she wore to Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry’s 2018 wedding. It features the striking detail of a bunch of blue flowers rising up from under the brim. For yesterday’s occasion Kate debuted a new pair of earrings: the $180 Aquamarine Orb earrings by Carousel Jewels. Princess Beatrice wore a check dress by Self-Portrait and a big headband. Self-Portrait is a popular brand with the royals—last year Beatrice showed off her baby bump in a polka-dot dress by the designer (she’s since given birth to a baby girl, Sienna Elizabeth) and in April Duchess Kate stepped out on her first ever joint engagement with Princess Anne, for which she wore a cream Self-Portrait skirt suit. Kensington Palace said that Kate’s peppermint dress from yesterday’s palace party is by a private designer but there’s speculation that the dress is by Ulyana Sergeenko, a Russian designer who has used the n-word in the past. It’s an odd choice given the Cambridges’ stated support for Ukraine, which is continuing the fight against Russia’s invasion. This is Kate’s second garden party of the year. On May 19 she represented the monarch in a coral coat-dress that turned a vibrant shade of bubblegum pink in the sunlight. The following evening she and William hit the red carpet alongside Tom Cruise for the premiere of Top Gun: Maverick with Kate wearing a black and white tube dress by Roland Mouret. She also wore a new pair of diamond star-motif earrings that retail at £10,560 ($13200.) The ‘Tsar Star Studs and Drops’ are by Robinson Pelham. Next up, What Is the Platinum Jubilee?
