In the clip, the Australian actress not only looks the part, but she also nails Diana’s accent perfectly, executing the late princess’ mannerisms to a T. In fact, Debicki’s performance in the new season of The Crown is so convincing it even has royal biographer Andrew Morton “shaken” over the uncanny similarities. Morton—who wrote the best-selling book Diana: Her True Story—was sent secret audio recordings straight from Diana, which he used to write the 1992 book. He recently told Good Morning America that the new scenes of Debicki as Diana nearly knocked him off his seat over how accurate the portrayal was. “When you see Diana talking, you’re really seeing what happened, and she’s using many of the words which she sent to me through tape recordings,” he stated, while admitting, “It left me breathless, and it took me back all those years.” “I don’t say this often, but I was shaken,” he added. And Morton is definitely not alone in his feelings toward Debicki’s Diana, as many are calling the actress’ performance “brilliant” in reactions to the clip on Twitter. “She completely nailed Diana,” another user wrote.
