AMC Theatres locations across the U.S. are gearing up for a nostalgic Grease comeback for an extremely good cause. The movie franchise will play Olivia Newton-John’s iconic 1978 film in commemoration of the late actress’ death. Due to her related health battle, the company is selling tickets for $5, with $1 from each sale going towards breast cancer research. CEO of AMC Theatres, Aaron Adam, made the special announcement on Twitter Wednesday. “To honor the late Olivia Newton-John: many of our U.S. theatres this weekend will show her classic 1978 hit movie Grease, again on the big screen,” he revealed, further noting that a portion of ticket sales will be donated via the AMC Cares charity. The world’s largest cinema chain is running the promotion starting Friday, Aug. 19, though it is unclear exactly how long the throwback film will be available for in-theatre viewing. Newton-John was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992, and despite initial successful treatment, the disease returned twice, spreading throughout her body. In May 2017, the singer-songwriter and actress announced that back pain originally thought to be sciatica, actually turned out to be cancer that had moved to her back, according to PEOPLE. The four-time Grammy winner was 73-years-old when she passed on August 8, 2022.
