When was House of the Dragon renewed for Season 2?

HBO announced on Aug. 26, 2022, that the drama series had been renewed for a second season. The announcement came just five days after the first episode premiered to massive numbers: More than 10 million people tuned in, and even more watched Episode 2. 

When will Season 2 of House of the Dragon premiere?

No date has been announced. Given that Season 1 debuted over a year after House of the Dragon tweeted that the series was officially in production, GoT fans might have to wait a little while before seeing more of the Targaryen crew’s drama. 

Who is in the House of the Dragon Season 2 cast?

The official cast of House of the Dragon Season 2 has not yet been revealed, so it’s unclear which characters will make it to the second season—especially when we all remember how the Red Wedding went in Game of Thrones. Ollie Upton / HBO However, Season 1 starred Paddy Considine as King Viserys Targaryen, Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon, Eve Best as Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, Fabien Frankel as Ser Criston Cole, Sonoya Mizuno as Mysaria and Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower.  The cast also included Milly Alcock, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Emily Carey, Harry Collett, Ryan Corr, Tom Glynn-Carney, Jefferson Hall, David Horovitch, Wil Johnson, John Macmillan, Graham McTavish, Ewan Mitchell, Theo Nate, Matthew Needham, Bill Paterson, Phia Saban, Gavin Spokes and Savannah Steyn. We can expect at least most of these stars to return, but in terms of who exactly will be there for Season 2, a lot remains to be determined.

What is House of the Dragon about?

The HBO original series tells the story of the House Targaryen. The program is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and examines the predecessors to Daenerys, the Dragon Queen.

What will happen in Season 2 of House of the Dragon?

We’ll probably have a better idea of what to expect following the Season 1 finale on Oct. 23, 2022, but it sounds like there will be new dragons … and severed heads in Season 2.  Variety reported in July of 2022 that co-showrunner Condal confirmed during San Diego Comic-Con that production was “already working on dragons that viewers won’t even see in Season 1, which are meant for Season 2 plots” and “joked they have a ‘severed head budget’ specifically for Season 2.” House of the Dragon is based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood. Spoilers ahead! According to Martin’s website, the book begins “with the legendary Aegon the Conqueror, creator of the Iron Throne, and goes on to recount the generations of Targaryens who fought to hold that iconic seat, all the way up to the civil war that nearly tore their dynasty apart.”
