The video kicked off with the Scandal alum walking into the studio. Her first act as interim host? Replacing all the photos of Kimmel with her paper cutouts of herself. “That’s better,” she declares, admiring her work. The star goes through the rehearsal process, including playing with the band, before hitting up the green room for some glam.  And then—showtime! She continued: “When I first started out, I had to supplement my income by being a substitute teacher, a yoga instructor, a hostess at a restaurant. So it meant a lot to me the first time that I qualified for that sweet Screen Actors Guild health insurance.““Yes, really. Now I’m a proud member of the Screen Actors Guild, or SAG as we say in the biz, but in order to get SAG healthcare, you have to make a certain amount of money each year, which is not always easy to do,” she explained.  In order for the of actors chosen to qualify to receive health care from SAG, they needed to deliver just one more line of dialogue on live television, and they got the chance thanks to Washington!  This isn’t the first time Washington went from actress to late-night host. Back in 2020 Kimmel had the actress sub in for him while he was taking a break, making the July 21, 2022 episode her second time appearing as a guest host. Washington is keeping busy as she has three acting projects in the works. She is currently working on the TV series Unprisoned, which she also executive produces, along with the film Shadow Force starring Sterling K. Brown and Omar Sy. Washington is also set to star in Eva Longoria’s feature directorial debut 24-7.
