The cinematic-like event was described as “a shooting that could have been pulled straight out of the script,” authorities said. The victim, whose identity has not been released, was sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle on N Henry Street near Norman Avenue in Greenpoint around 5:15 AM, when the gunman suddenly opened the driver’s side door and shot him multiple times in the face and neck, according to officials who responded to the crime scene. He was taken to Woodhull Medical Center and pronounced dead just before the scheduled 6 AM filming start time. “It was crazy,’’ a devastated colleague of the deceased recalled. The two worked for NBC parking vehicles at the show’s sets in the wee hours of the morning to save spaces for the film crews’ trucks when they arrived later in the day. “I don’t even know who would do this or why," the source added. The crew member had reportedly been doing his job for about six years, as a coworker who referred to him as “like a brother” detailed the nature of their work. “We put up the fliers, cones and park the trucks. We come 24 hours in advance to start clearing out the parking,” he said, adding, “We park in our trucks, and we wait for the stars to come out. The trucks have equipment for the TV shows and movie scenes.” “He was a great guy, always laughing or making somebody laugh, you know?” he added of his friend. NBC and Universal Television issued a statement following the unfortunate event: “We were terribly saddened and shocked to hear that one of our crew members was the victim of a crime early this morning and has died as a result. We are working with local law enforcement as they continue to investigate. Our hearts go out to his family and friends, and we ask that you respect their privacy during this time.” Local resident Ian Oberholtzer, 35, noted his confusion surrounding the tragedy. “It’s not the kind of thing you’d expect on the block,” he told the New York Post, adding that the area is generally quiet and safe. In the 11 years he’s lived on the block, he has always felt out of harm’s way. “I never feel threatened or endangered,” the resident commented. The block is a popular set for shooting the show due to its close proximity to production studios, Oberholtzer revealed. No motive in the seemingly random shooting has been released, however, the investigation is ongoing. The suspect fled the scene and has not yet been identified or apprehended, per authorities.
