The Duchess of Sussex laid a bouquet of white roses at a memorial for the youngest victim of the attack, 10-year-old Uziyah Garcia. The memorial is at the courthouse in Ulvade near the site of the murders, Robb Elementary School. A spokesperson for Meghan said that the duchess “took this trip in a personal capacity as a mother, to offer her condolences and support in-person to a community experiencing unimaginable grief.” She ignored calls from reporters as she knelt briefly at the makeshift cross. She also spent time looking at the other white crosses that honor each of the victims killed in the attack that has sent shockwaves across the US and the world. According to the Los Angeles Times, Uziyah’s father Sergio Garcia said that his son never said goodbye without saying “I love you” and that his son had loved playing video games and singing karaoke. Meghan and Prince Harry and their two children—three-year-old Archie and 11-month-old Lilibet—are set to visit London next week for Queen Elizabeth II’s platinum jubilee celebrations.
