Who’s in the cast of Ms. Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries?
Geraldine Hakewill (Peregrine Fisher)
Peregrine Fisher is a lot like her aunt, who she has never met. Both are strong, independent women who think on their feet and have a love of fashion. In real life, Hakewill is a dancer and singer/songwriter. She has released an EP called You’ve Never Seen This Smile. Fun fact: Hakewill was the one to propose to her boyfriend, Australian actor Mark Leonard Winter (who stars in the upcoming series Eden). Oh, he said yes.
Joel Jackson (James Steed)
Detective Inspector James Steed is a gentleman through and through. It’s only when he’s under the influence (he was unknowingly drugged with a truth serum in “Space for Murder”) that he confesses his admiration of Peregrine. His reserved diplomacy pairs well with Peregrine’s spitfire personality. In a world of crooked cops, Steed is one of the few upstanding and principled policemen in Melbourne. The detective’s surname is a nod to The Avengers, a British spy series from the 1960s starring Dame Diana Rigg and Patrick Macnee as John Steed. Jackson is also a singer/songwriter like Hakewill. The accomplished guitarist has also released an EP called Boy on a Wire. Fun fact:Jackson has been in two films with Harry Potter alum. He starred opposite Daniel Radcliffe in Jungle (2017) and opposite Miriam Margolyes in H is for Happiness (2019).
Catherine McClements (Birdie Birnside)
Birdie is a former World War II spy who runs the Adventuresses Club. She doesn’t like Peregrine at first, but warms up to her eventually. Fun fact:McClements graduated from the National Institute of Dramatic Arts (of which Jackson is also an alum) alongside Baz Luhrmann. She and Luhrmann and several others started an experimental theater ensemble and worked on expanding a play which later became the film, Strictly Ballroom.
Louisa Mignone (Violetta Fellini)
The nerdy-looking scientist is a bombshell in disguise. She was previously engaged to an Italian mobster.
Toby Truslove (Samuel Birnside)
Samuel is Birdie’s younger brother and gadget maker. He’s this series’ version of Q and provides Peregrine with various gadgets to use in her crime-solving adventures. He was previously married but his wife died in a car accident. He and Violetta are dating.
Greg Stone (Chief Inspector Percy Sparrow)
The Chief Inspector is as corrupt as they come. He butts heads with the righteous Steed at every turn. Phryne had some evidence that showed him in a bad light which Peregrine later traded to exonerate Steed from a crime he didn’t commit.
Katie Robertson (Constable Fleur Connor)
Fleur is the lovable constable and Steed’s sometime assistant. She and Steed are almost like brother and sister, and it’s Fleur who sometimes gives him that nugget of truth when he needs it most.
