There were other cast changes as well due to the departures of Maria Bello (Special Agent Jacqueline “Jack” Sloane) and Emily Wickersham (Special Agent Eleanor “Ellie” Bishop), and, of course, the new day and time! One of those was the addition of Gary Cole, who joined the cast as FBI Special Agent Alden Parker, but who now is leading the NCIS team after being fired from the FBI for his support of Gibbs—and after McGee (Sean Murray) turned the job down. In comparing Gibbs to Parker, Cole told TV Guide, “Parker isn’t overly chatty, but he is more verbal. He’s not as old school; he tries to get his hands on the new tech gadgets and impress everybody. He’s trying to fit in with the rest of the team. Although he may be reluctant to voice it, he admires that Gibbs breaks rules. Parker bends them. We’ll see if it gets to the point of breaking.” Here is everything we know about season 19 to date:

Is Gibbs leaving NCIS?

Break out the hankies! Mark Harmon said goodbye to his role as Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs on NCIS on Oct. 11, 2021—in an episode full of moments that brought tears to the eyes of viewers as they said goodbye to this longtime TV favorite character.

When is NCIS season 19 filming?

Filming started for NCIS season 19 on July 15. Wilmer Valderrama shared a photo on Instagram with the caption, “S19, Special Agents… mount up.” Brian Dietzen also shared a couple photos leading up to the start of production. One noting the show’s new Monday night time slot and another from the set showing him holding his character Jimmy Palmer’s signature glasses. “These are going on my face now,” he wrote in the caption. “Well hello Jimmy. Let’s do this.” And another, more recent post heralding the return of David McCallum.

Which NCIS cast members are returning for season 19?

Mark Harmon (Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs)

Sean Murray (Special Agent Timothy McGee)

Wilmer Valderrama (Special Agent Nicholas “Nick” Torres)

Brian Dietzen (Dr. Jimmy Palmer)

Diona Reasonover (Forensic Scientist Kasie Hines)

Rocky Carroll (NCIS Director Leon Vance)

David McCallum (Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard)

Who will join the NCIS cast for the new season 19?

Gary Cole

The Good Fight star Gary Cole will be joining the series as FBI Special Agent Alden Park. More information on his new character will be revealed at a later date.

Katrina Law

With the departure of both Maria Bello and Emily Wickersham,  Katrina Law, who guest starred on the final two episodes of season 18 as Special Agent Jessica Knight, a member of the REACT Team (Regional Enforcement Action Capabilities Training Team), will be the new permanent member of the team. Jessica is a formidable REACT agent who specializes in hostage negotiations and handles daily high-risk operations with skill and precision. Sharp, athletic and tough, she is fiercely tenacious and has a wry sense of humor. Jessica worked well with McGee and Torres (Wilmer Valderrama), who at this point are the only two remaining members of Gibbs’ team. “We haven’t shot a single frame quite yet, but with the addition of Gary Cole and Katrina Law to the cast, this is already shaping up to be one of the best seasons yet,” Steven D. Binder, Executive Producer/Showrunner, said in a statement. “Going into season 19, we are excited to have new characters and stories to tell that adds to and reenergizes the world we’ve come to love over the 400+ episodes.”

How old is Ducky on NCIS?

We’ve never been told exactly how old Ducky is on NCIS. But we can infer that he’s a bit old based on the age of David McCallum, the actor who has portrayed the retired doctor and former medical examiner. McCallum was born on September 19, 1933, in Glasgow, England, which makes his 88 years old.

Here’s a fun moment from the set of NCIS posted by Diona Reasonover

Which NCIS cast members left the show in season 18?

Maria Bello (Special Agent Jacqueline “Jack” Sloane)

Maria Bello’s exit should have taken place at the end of Season 17, but when COVID-19 shut down production, Bello owed NCIS more episodes, which carried over into Season 18. For her swan song, Sloane and Gibbs went on a rescue mission to Helmand Province, Afghanistan to rescue a busload of 10-year-old girls being chaperoned to school by a woman named Darya who were all kidnapped by the Taliban. Darya had previously saved Sloane’s life and she felt obligated to return the favor. But when Darya was killed, Sloane decided to stay in Afghanistan because she felt it was somewhere she could make a difference.

Emily Wickersham (Special Agent Eleanor “Ellie” Bishop)

Bello’s decision to leave the show didn’t come as a surprise. It had been previously announced, but Wickersham’s exit caught everyone by off-guard. Even so, it was something that was carefully planned out because Ellie first met the character of Odette (Elayn Taylor), who is sending her off on an undercover assignment, when Ziva (Cote de Pablo) returned to the series. At that time, Odette told Ellie they saw something special in her and she has been in training for her new mission ever since. As Ellie told Torres, she just didn’t expect it to happen so soon, and neither did we.

Who died on NCIS in season 18?

Breena Palmer (Michelle Pierce)

It took viewers by shock when on the Feb. 9, 2021 episode of NCIS, Jimmy (Brian Dietzen) revealed that he was a solo parent because his wife Breena had died of COVID-19, leaving him as a single father. Breena’s death happened off camera.

Emily Fornell (Juliette Angelo)

Former FBI Agent Tobias Fornell (Joe Spano) and Gibbs teamed up early in Season 18 to take down the drug dealers responsible for putting Fornell’s daughter Emily in the hospital as the result of an opiate overdose. And they were successful in shutting down the drug ring. But it wasn’t enough. They may have been able to save a lot of other people’s lives, but it was too late for Emily, and she died after a relapse.

Will FBI Agent Tobias Fornell return in season 18?

He will—and it is former FBI Agent Tobias Fornell. Despite the many tragedies he has suffered—the loss of his wife Diane (Melinda McGraw) and daughter Emily, he hasn’t completely deserted Gibbs. “We will be seeing Fornell for as long as Joe Spano would like to be on this show,” Binder told TVLine. “He’s just fantastic.” Spano is definitely booked for one episode to date.

Who will replace Gibbs as team leader?

Logic would dictate—and longtime fans were hoping—that Timothy McGee would become the senior agent on the team. But when McGee was asked by former Special Agent Alden Parker why he didn’t make a play for the job, McGee told him that he passed because he’s a family man and the job requires longer hours. Director Vance offered Gibbs’ job to Parker, but he turned it down—initially. Vance offered him the job again tonight. We never saw what Alden replied to Vance. But it looks like we have a new leader.

How many episodes of NCIS season 19 will there be?

As CBS’ No. 1 drama, NCIS normally produces 24 episodes per season, but the count for season 19 has not yet been revealed.

What happened in the NCIS season 18 finale?

Season 18 ended with quite the bang when the boat that Gibbs was on exploded and we see him lying face down in the water but wait! There is movement, so he is alive. Gibbs and journalist Marcie (Pam Dawber) were on the hunt for a serial killer, who is on to the fact that they are on to him. So this boat explosion is most likely a ploy for Gibbs to pretend to be dead, so he can track the killer down without really getting killed. The other big question is the usual: How did Gibbs get the boat that he built out of the basement? Then, McGee, Bishop and Torres were on a case, trying to track down some arms dealers, when a file turned up that Bishop apparently leaked 10 years prior when she worked at the NSA. She admitted to leaking it and she left NCIS, but it turned out that that, too, was a ploy, Bishop was actually going undercover as a disgraced NCIS agent for Odette, the woman she met when Ziva returned, who saw something special in her and trained her. But it did lead to the moment fans had been waiting for: Emily kissed Torres goodbye.

Will Ziva (Cote de Pablo) be returning to NCIS for season 19?

Nope. For now, Ziva’s story was wrapped up with her four-episode return in season 17, when she left to fly to Paris and reunite with Tony and their daughter. “We loved the Ziva character going very deep, and so, it was such an honor to get to revisit that story and tie up some of the loose ends that we had, and it was such an honor to get to work with Cote again,” co-executive producer Gina Lucita Monreal told Parade.com. “If there’s more story to tell, I’m the first to jump on board. I love that character, and I hope that it showed through those episodes.”

Will Meredith Eaton be returning for NCIS for season 19?

Abby’s former occasional lab buddy immunologist Carol Wilson (Meredith Eaton), who has appeared in three episodes to date, will guest star on an upcoming episode in 2022, TV Insider reports. “We’re beyond excited to be able to work with Meredith Eaton again. She’s an amazing actor, who brings a wonderful energy to our show. Since her last guest appearance in Season 11, we’ve been chomping at the bit to have her back whenever her schedule allowed,” Binder told the outlet. “And now, with the team desperately needing the help of an expert immunologist, who better than Meredith’s beloved ‘Carol Wilson’ to come and save the day? The only real question is, will she be in time?” What makes the episode even more special is that it was co-written by Brian Dietzen and Scott Williams.

Why did Abby Sciuto leave NCIS?

Abby (Pauley Perrette) left NCIS at the conclusion of season 15. As much as she loved her time as a forensics specialist in the lab, when Clayton Reeves (Duane Henry), her NCIS colleague on loan from MI-6, was killed protecting her during a robbery, Abby decided she owed it to Clayton to move to the U.K. to make his dream come true. She would oversee the charity that Reeves had hoped to start in honor of his late mother. But first she had to track down the man who killed Reeves, which she did, but there was a twist. He had been hired to kill her. So, then she needed to find the man who had hired him. It turned out to be Marine Corps Sgt. Major Robert King (Peter Jason), who had tricked Abby into developing a bioweapon in Season 6’s “Toxic” episode, which she shut down, so he had been holding a grudge. Finally, she was free to go and told her coworkers, “You guys are my family and this is my home, but you have to go with your gut and my gut is telling me I have to go.”
