Much of Raising Dion’s main first-season cast will be returning for Season 2, including Wainwright as Nicole, Young as Dion, Ritteras Pat, Sammi Haney as Esperanza and Jazmyn Simon as Kat. Additionally, Ali Ahn (who plays Suzanne Wu), Gavin Munn (Jonathan King) and Griffin Robert Faulkner (Brayden Mills) have been upped to series-regular status for Season 2, after guest-starring in Season 1. However, Jordan is remaining involved with the series as an executive producer, so we can still hold out hope that he may still appear on screen as well.

What is Raising Dion Season 2 about?

Picking up two years after the events of Season 1, Raising Dion Season 2 will see Dion once again exploring his powers as Nicole works hard to raise him well and keep him safe, but that will be easier said than done when a new threat arises.  The official Netflix synopsis for Raising Dion Season 2 reads: “Season 2 follows Dion as he continues honing his powers with the support of his mom and Tevin (Rome Flynn), his Biona trainer who catches Nicole’s eye. After befriending new student Brayden (Griffin Robert Faulkner)—a fellow powered kid—a series of alarming events unfold, and Dion learns that danger is still looming. Navigating twists, turns, and surprise visitors, Dion and Nicole must prevail again—not just to save themselves, but the entire city of Atlanta.” Of course, at the end of Season 1, we see Brayden seemingly become possessed by The Crooked Man after the final showdown with Dion, implying that their friendship will likely take a dark turn. Promo photos also reveal that Pat will be back in some capacity, proving that he somehow survived the final showdown. However, considering Pat is wearing handcuffs in one of the promo photos, that seems to indicate that he will still be held accountable for his actions as The Crooked Man, even if he no longer has his powers.

Are there Raising Dion first-look photos?

Yep, in fact, Netflix has released several promo images for the upcoming season. In them, we can see that Nicole and Dion are still as close as ever, Pat is back (somehow) and that Dion will continue to use his powers and be aided by his friends. We also get a first look at Flynn’s new character, Tevin Wakefield.

What happened at the end of Raising Dion Season 1?

Season 1 of Raising Dion established the characters of Nicole and Dion, struggling to get by as a family of two following the death of Dion’s father, Mark (Michael B. Jordan, who also serves as executive producer). After realizing that Dion possesses extraordinary abilities, Nicole seeks help from Mark’s best friend, Pat, to help her understand Dion’s abilities and protect him. Over the season, Nicole and Pat grow closer, with Pat developing romantic feelings for Nicole and a fatherly relationship with Dion. The end of the season revealed several huge twists—namely, that Pat is actually The Crooked Man, and is responsible for Mark’s death. It turns out that Pat and Mark both gained powers in the Aurora Event in Iceland in 2010, but that Pat also sustained lasting injuries following his contact with meteorites during the event. Pat eventually becomes The Crooked Man, and begins absorbing other superpowered individuals in order to temporarily heal himself, including Mark. When Pat realized that Dion has the ability to heal, he became determined to convince Dion to permanently heal him of his injuries.  Toward the end of Season 1, Nicole learns the truth about Pat after he turns violent when he gets jealous of her feelings for another man. After realizing that Pat is the one who has been killing superpowered people, Nicole rushes to protect Dion.  While Dion uses his powers to hold off The Crooked Man, Mark is finally able to push his way out from inside him, weakening him just long enough for Nicole to presumably kill him with an improvised lightning rod. We see the souls of all the superpowered people that The Crooked Man has killed finally freed into the sky, and Mark is able to reunite with Nicole and Dion for a few final moments.  Mark tells Dion that “energy never dies; it just takes a different form,” warning him that the energy from The Crooked Man is still out there in the world somewhere. Dion understands his father’s warning, but also reminds him of the inverse, that good is always out there too. He vows to someday find a way to bring his father back. After a final embrace with his family, Mark disappears, and Dion and Nicole return to their lives.  In a final scene, we see the smoke that once indicated The Crooked Man now swirling around Dion’s young friend Brayden (Griffin Robert Faulkner), the son of one of Pat’s former victims, who appears to have killed his aunt. Brayden had already possessed the power of telepathy, but now appears to also contain the same dark energy that was once held by Pat.
