A lot of people have been waiting for any news on Deadpool 3, with the upcoming Disney/Marvel film serving as the R-rated Deadpool’s first official appearance in the MCU. The movie was not mentioned at the recent D23 Expo, but Reynolds just surprised everyone with a major announcement that makes up for the long wait. In a new video posted on social media, Reynolds hilariously revealed that Hugh Jackman, who many thought retired from playing a superhero, will return one more time as the fan-favorite member of the X-Men, Wolverine. The video starts with Reynolds sitting on a couch addressing the viewers. He began, “Hey everyone, we’re extremely sad to have missed D23, but we’ve been working very hard on the next Deadpool film for a good long while now. I’ve had to really search my soul on this one. His first appearance in the MCU obviously needs to feel special.” Accompanying shots of Reynolds out in nature, working out, typing on a typewriter, and even sitting on a toilet in the full Deadpool suit, Reynolds continued, “We need to stay true to the character, find new depth, motivation, meaning. Every Deadpool needs to stand out and stand apart.” The actor then admitted, “It’s been an incredible challenge that has forced me to reach down deep inside. And I…I have nothing. Yeah, just completely empty up here. And terrifying.” Luckily, he didn’t stop there: “But we did have one idea.” Reynolds paused as, unexpectedly, Jackman walked by in the background eating an apple. Without looking back, Reynolds asked, “Hey, Hugh, you want to play Wolverine one more time?” Nonchalantly, Jackman said, “Yeah, sure, Ryan." Reynolds raised his eyebrow before Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” played. The lyrics went by on the bottom of the screen, but they were a bit doctored, with the iconic line instead reading, “And I will always love Hugh.” “Coming Hughn” then flashed across the screen, followed by the official release date: Sept. 6, 2024.
