Will there be shark content before or after Shark Week 2021?

Shark lovers, rejoice! Discovery is celebrating their favorite species of marine predator throughout the month of July with a shark movie festival on both TV and streaming. The Sharknado series, as well as Mega Shark vs. Octopus, Mega Shark vs. Mecha Shark, 2-Head Shark Attack, and 3-Headed Shark Attack will all be available on discovery+ come July 1. The documentary Envoy: Shark Cull, narrated by Eric Bana, will also premiere on the streaming service July 1. Meanwhile, Jaws will air on Saturday, July 10, at 8 p.m. ET on Discovery. In addition to movies, there will be pre-premieres of Shark Week shows—Return to Headstone Hell, Mega Predators of Oz and Return to Shark Vortex—available exclusively on discovery+ starting July 1. The streaming platform will also be home to Discovery’s first-ever shark series, Shark Academy, which premieres July 11.

What to expect from Shark Week 2021

Shark Week “will once again deliver incredible brand-new, innovative shark research and compelling insight on some of the most remarkable shark species in the world including the first in utero tag in a pregnant Tiger shark, a potentially new Great White mating behavior and the discovery of an elusive pupping ground,” per a press release. Robert Irwin, son of the late Steve Irwin, will come face to face with a great white shark in Crikey! It’s Shark Week, while Sharknado’s Ziering and Reid will be picking up their chainsaws again to see if a real Sharknado can happen. Viewers can also look forward to watching country star Paisley put his “musical talents to the test in shark-infested waters to see how sound can attract or repel sharks” in Brad Paisley’s Shark Country.

How Shark Week helps protects sharks

Discovery has a partnership with Oceana to help protect sharks, which are threatened by a global shark fin trade. In a press release for Shark Week 2021, Discovery notes that the “market for shark fins is a historic driver of overfishing, which is why it’s more important than ever that this year’s Shark Week collaborations with major brands and content creators help raise money for Oceana’s campaigns and educate fans about why healthy oceans need sharks.” Discovery partnered this year with Beneath The Waves, a non-profit organization that uses “cutting-edge science to advance scientific discovery and catalyze ocean policy, with initiatives focusing on the conservation of biodiversity and highly migratory species such as shark.”

How long has Shark Week been going on for?

Television’s longest-running summer event started over three decades ago. Shark Week, now in its 33rd year, made its debut in 1988. Next, everything you need to know about Chip and Joanna Gaines’ Magnolia Network!
