Nowadays, She’s All That is back on people’s radars thanks to Netflix’s new gender-swapped remake, He’s All That. This time around, the teen rom-com (premiering Friday, Aug. 27) stars Tik Tok icon AddisonRae, who plays a social media influencer who makes a bet that she can turn any guy into a prom king. (Who does she set her sights on? Cobra Kai star TannerBuchanan.) Rae may be beloved among the Gen Z crowd, but she and her He’s All That castmates still have some big shoes to fill in order to charm audiences as much as the stars of the original film did. “They were all people that could be leading people, but who weren’t necessarily before,” producer Richard N. Gladstein has said about the original She’s All That cast. “The group of them together made for a sort of shining ensemble.” And they’re still shining! Rachael Leigh Cook
Cook played nerdy, bespectacled, terribly unpopular Laney Boggs, who’s transformed into a prom queen over the course of the movie. The actress came to fame as the teen in the “This is Your Brain on Drugs” PSA, where she got violent with a pan in the kitchen. She went on to star in Josie and the Pussycats—which, like She’s All That, has gone on to achieve cult-fave status—as well as the TV shows Las Vegas and Psych. In 2016, Cook starred in the Hallmark film Summer Love. Her relationship with Hallmark became a bit of a love affair in itself; she soon appeared in the network’s Autumn In the Vineyard, followed by its sequel Summer in the Vineyard the next year, and Valentine in the Vineyard in 2019. Cook is also active behind the camera, executive producing the Hallmark film Frozen in Love as well as starring in it. In December 2020, Cook also produced and starred in the Netflix film Love, Guaranteed opposite Damon Wayans, Jr. Cook surprised many by appearing in the trailer for He’s All That, but don’t get too excited. According to IMDb, Cook is playing Anna Sawyer, the mother of Rae’s character—not Laney.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Prinze starred opposite Cook as Zack—the jock/class president protagonist who, after being crushed by a cheating girlfriend, boasts that he can turn any girl into a prom queen. Prinze went on to star in a slew of teen flicks, such as I Know What You Did Last Summer and Summer Catch. He also starred as Fred in the Scooby-Doo films with future wife Sarah Michelle Gellar of Buffy, the Vampire Slayer fame. (Fun fact: Gellar was also in She’s All That. She played “Girl in Cafeteria.”) They’re still married and have two kids. Prinze is also a great cook. In 2016, hereleased the cookbookBack to the Kitchen: 75 Real Recipes & True Stories from a Food-Obsessed Actor. In 2021, Prinze appeared in Peacock’s Punky Brewster reboot as Punky’s ex-husband.
Matthew Lillard
Matthew Lillard played reality TV star Brock Hudson, who Prinze’s girlfriend cheated with, in She’s All That. He went on to team up with Prinze in the Scooby-Doo films, playing Shaggy. More recently, Lillard has done tons of TV work, appearing regularly on shows like Bosch and Good Girls. He’s also the only other She’s All That cast member besides Cook who shows up in the trailer for He’s All That, where he’ll be playing Principal Bosch (is the name a Bosch Easter egg?), according to IMDb.
Paul Walker
After playing the popular (but slightly shady) friend who Zack makes his bet with in She’s All That, PaulWalker went on to experience mega-fame as the co-star of the Fast and Furious franchise alongside real-life buddy, VinDiesel. He was tragically killed in a 2013 car crash during filming for Furious 7. Diesel and company found a touching and memorable way to honor Walker in that film’s final scene.
Anna Paquin
Kieran Culkin
Macaulay’s younger brother in real life, Kieran Culkin played Laney’s annoying kid brother in She’s All That. He went on to become a rather serious actor, appearing in films like The Cider House Rules, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and Igby Goes Down. He’s currently co-starring in the HBO family drama Succession, where he’s already garnered an Emmy nomination. Culkin is married and just had a baby last year; he and wife Jazz Chartonare already expecting baby No. 2!
Milo Ventimiglia
You might not even know it, but Milo Ventimiglia was also in She’s All That; he was part of the soccer team that showed up to clean Laney’s house in one scene. Two years after She’s All That, Ventimiglia became a series regular on Gilmore Girls until 2006, when he signed on to the NBC drama Heroes. He starred as Peter, a man with the power of empathetic mimicry, until the show’s end in 2010. In 2016, he started playing the role of the Pearson family patriarch in the NBC tearjerker drama This Is Us, and that’s where he still is today. He’s also been in films like Grown Ups 2 and Creed II.
Alexis Arquette
The transgender sister of Rosanna, David and Patricia Arquette, Arquette played Mitch in She’s All That. She went on to appear in films like The Wedding Singer. Sadly, she passed away in 2016 after having a heart attack, although HIV was the underlying condition that caused her death.
Gabrielle Union
Gabrielle Union, who played Katie, went on to star in more teen films like 10 Things I Hate About You, Love & Basketball and Bring It On. She also famously guest-starred on Friends as one of Ross’ love interests and later starred in BET’s dramatic series Being Mary Jane, which ended in 2019. That year, she also went public with allegations of a toxic workplace environment at NBC’s America’s Got Talent, where she served as a judge for one season. She is married to NBA star Dwyane Wade and welcomed daughter Kaavia James Union Wade with him via surrogate in November 2018. Union is also a devoted stepmom to Wade’s four other children, including the nephew Wade has custody of, DahveonMorris.
Lil’ Kim
Rapper Lil’ Kim made her acting debut in She’s All That. She’s gone on to appear in shows like Moesha, Nora’s Hair Salon and The Game, but her focus was always the rap game. Just months after She’s All That was released, Kim went on to remake “Lady Marmalade” with Pink, Christina Aguilera and Mya for the Moulin Rouge! soundtrack; it became her first Billboard No. 1 and she won a Grammy for it. She’s been nominated for several American Music Awards and Billboard Music Awards and has sold over 15 million albums. In 2019, she released the album 9. She also has an upcoming memoir, The Queen Bee.
Clea DuVall
The same year she played Misty in She’s All That,CleaDuVall appeared in Girl, Interrupted. She later re-teamed with Ventimiglia on the show Heroes for a year, playing Audrey in the 2006-2007 season. She also spent time on the HBO comedy Veep, where she played Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Secret Service agent who eventually marries her daughter. She’s directed two films: Intervention in 2016 and 2020’s hit Hulu romcom Happiest Season, starring Kristen Stewart and Dan Levy, which DuVall also co-wrote.
Usher
Usher played the campus DJ in She’s All That; at the time, he already had a No. 1 Billboard song and a few other hits under his belt as a singer. Since then, he’s earned eight more No. 1 songs on the Billboard Hot 100, as well as eight Grammy awards, eight American Music awards and 18 Billboard Music Awards. He plans to drop his hugely anticipated sequel albumConfessions 2 this year.
Dulé Hill
The same year he appeared in She’s All That as Zach’s friend, Preston (whose house is, happily, big enough for parties), Dulé Hill became one of the regular cast members on the political drama The West Wing, landing an Emmy nomination for the role. He later co-starred in the television show Psych, which ran from 2006 to 2014. He’ll be seen again in the upcoming film Hypnotic for Netflix and in ABC’s The Wonder Years remake, arriving in September 2021.
Kevin Pollak
KevinPollak, who got his start as a standup comedian, had already starred inThe Usual Suspects in 1995 before showing up on the set of She’s All That to play Wayne Boggs. Afterwards, he continued to appear in various television shows and films, even doing voiceover work for animated shows. He’s got the films Hypnotized and 4 Kings coming up soon, as well as Season 4 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel—which Ventimiglia appears in as well.
Debbi Morgan
Soap queen Debbi Morgan appeared on She’s All That as Ms. Rousseau in the midst of her tenure on All My Children, a show she appeared on for almost two decades as one half of the popular powerhouse couple Angie and Jesse. Morgan went on to appear in both movies and television shows, most recently Power and Bigger. She also recently appeared on an episode of FOX’s Fantasy Island reboot.
Chris Owen
Owen is perhaps best known as “The Sherminator” (a.k.a. Chuck Sherman) from the American Pie film franchise. He’s stayed with that franchise ever since and will appear in the upcoming American Pie 5; co-star Tara Reidsaid earlier this year that a script for the film is ready and is definitely happening.
