Everyone’s favorite web-slinger has returned for his third solo outing of the modern era now that Spider-Man: No Way Home is swinging into theaters on Friday, Dec. 17. After the movie’s first trailer was unceremoniously leaked online (in a grainy bootlegged copy)—offering a live-action dive into the multiverse in the spirit of the critically acclaimed, Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse—an all-new trailer dropped on Nov. 16 that shows our titular hero (Tom Holland) confronting (as Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange puts it in the preview) “some visitors… from every universe”—including Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina), Electro (Jamie Foxx) and the Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe). Spider-Man: No Way Home release date

Spider-Man: No Way Home hits theaters on Friday, Dec. 17, 2021.

Is Spider-Man: No Way Home coming to Disney Plus?

Spider-Man: No Way Home is not coming to Disney+, as this is a Sony Pictures release (still a part of the MCU though). This will be an exclusive theatrical release window.

What is Spider-Man: No Way Home about?

Since this is Marvel, obviously many plot details are being kept under lock and key. What we do know so far is that in No Way Home, Peter Parker makes a Faustian plea with Doctor Strange to cast a spell eliminating public knowledge that he is Spider-Man (revealed in the epic cliffhanger of Far From Home). This opens a portal to the multiverse, similar to the “Spider-Verse” explored in the highly acclaimed 2018 eponymous animated hit. Pairing Spider-Man with the magic of Doctor Strange will certainly bring us mind-bending action sequences unlike any before, and an unpredictable, even psychedelic plot.

Are there Spider-Man: No Way Home spoilers?

Up until the Nov. 16 trailer dropped, the biggest news about the movie was the unexpected, tantalizing return of Otto Octavius (Doctor Octopus), played by Alfred Molina. The thespian’s spin on the iconic comic character is widely hailed as perhaps Marvel’s best villain ever. Octavius died by suicide in the emotional finale of Sam Raimi’s 2004 masterpiece Spider-Man 2 (which we still think is darn near the best superhero movie ever), but the multiverse allows for his return. This is tremendously exciting news. Speaking of returns, it’s long been rumored that previous Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield, Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst would be returning to the storied franchise by way of the multiverse, but this remains to be seen. However, with the latest trailer, fans seem convinced that both Garfield and Maguire will reappear in No Way Home—but to keep their roles a secret until the very end, the studio edited them out of the new trailer footage, leading to some strange moments in that preview when, as just one example, “invisible” punches are thrown.
