Did I mention Q is back?! Q returns to the Star Trek universe to torment Picard (Sir Patrick Stewart) once again. At the end of the season 2 premiere, the new Borg Queen was about to assimilate the entire Star Trek fleet when Picard’s old team were whisked away to where… or should I say when? We learned that Zhaban (Jamie McShane) had died about a year-and-a-half ago. So was that ample enough time for Laris (Orla Brady) to mourn her husband? Maybe I read the scene wrong but was Picard hitting on his house manager? Is there romance in the air for these two? When I asked Patrick Stewart about it, he said, “Things change and the nature of the relationship between Laris and Picard becomes something different and I hope, a little unexpected, but it makes a great story.” In this week’s episode entitled “Penance”, Picard and his crew find themselves in an alternate timeline in the year 2400 where Q has orchestrated one final “trial” for “mon capitane”. Each member of Picard’s team is spread far and wide as Picard searches for them while also trying to find the cause of the dystopian reality they now face. Look for appearances by Patton Oswalt and Jon Jon Briones, who is the father of Isa Briones (Dahj/Soji). New episodes of Star Trek: Picard drop weekly on Thursdays on Paramount+.
