Except this Laris was not the Romulan refugee with an Irish lilt. This one is a present-day human with an American accent. We’ll learn more about her in this week’s episode and how she may be integral to the divergence in the timeline. It seemed Picard (Patrick Stewart) might have thought the Watcher was also Guinan as he finds himself at the 10 Forward bar, but instead of the Guinan we know, we met a much younger version (Ito Aghayere) in this altered timeline. At the end of last week’s episode entitled “Fly Me to the Moon”, Q (John de Lancie) was surveilling a young woman and when he went to use his powers, something peculiar happened—nothing at all. Did you catch the fun Easter egg in last week’s episode? When Seven (Jeri Ryan) and Raffi (Michelle Hurd) are on the bus, Seven asks a punk to turn down his music which he politely does. This is a callback to the film Star Trek: The Voyage Home. In the film, Kirk (Williams Shatner) and Spock (Leonard Nimoy) are in present-day San Francisco riding a bus. Kirk is annoyed by the blaring music (the same song heard in Picard) coming from a punk’s boom box. When asked to turn his music down, the punk only turns it up louder. Spock uses a Vulcan nerve pinch to incapacitate him. The punk was played by producer Kirk Thatcher who reprised his role in the Picard episode. In this week’s all new episode of Picard, Brent Spiner returns to the show, but not as Data or one of the Dr. Soong’s he’s previously portrayed. Instead, as Q continues his manipulation of the timeline, he takes on an interest in Dr. Adam Soong (Brent Spiner). We also learn more about the woman in the present day who is the subject of Q’s interest. Seven and Raffi attempt a daring rescue of Rios (Santiago Cabrera) who is stuck in an ICE detention center while Jurati (Alison Pill) faces the consequences of her deal with the Borg Queen. Lea Thompson makes a cameo appearance in this episode. Thompson directed the previous two episodes of Picard. “Fly Me to the Moon” was directed by Jonathan Frakes.
