Pepsico Inc. formally announced a recall for the pre-packaged Starbucks Vanilla Espresso Triple Shot Energy Coffee Beverage last week due to a risk of foreign material contamination—specifically metal fragments. While the voluntary recall was initiated last month, the formal announcement wasn’t made through the U.S. Food and Drug Administration until this month. The parent company has also not yet released the affected lot codes or expiration dates but reported that 221 cases (each containing 12 15-ounce bottles) are involved, sold in retailers throughout Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Oklahoma and Texas. It’s unclear at this time how the contamination was discovered or if there have been any illnesses or injuries linked to the products in question, but if you are in possession of a case that may be included in the recall, you should dispose of it or return it to the point of purchase.
