Series star Michael Weatherly tweeted on Tuesday: ““It’s been my privilege to play Dr Jason Bull but after 6 Seasons of incredible storylines, I’ve decided it’s time to pursue new creative challenges and bring his story to a close. It has been an honor to work with this talented cast, crew, and writing/producing team who helped reinvent the legal drama. Stay tuned for a big series finish…Thanks to all the fans from the bottom of my heart. You will always be a part of our Bull family!” Without its lead character, CBS pulled the plug on the drama which was loosely based on the early character of Dr. Phil McGraw, who before finding TV fame worked as a jury consultant. McGraw serves as an executive producer on Bull. The series premiered in 2016 to strong ratings but ran into problems in 2018 when actress Eliza Dushku charged Weatherly with sexual harassment. CBS paid Dushku $9.5 million to settle. Dushku had joined the cast as a potential series regular in season 2 but was written out after making her complaint and receiving the settlement. The news was initially reported by The New York Times. That wasn’t the only bump in the road. Season 5 saw the departure of showrunner Glenn Gordon Caron and original cast member Freddy Rodriguez following a workplace investigation. CBS also chimed in on the end of the series saying: “For six seasons, Bull has established itself as a ratings winner with its fresh take on the judicial process never before seen on television,” CBS said in a statement. “We extend our thanks to the talented cast, Michael Weatherly, Geneva Carr, Yara Martinez, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Christopher Jackson, MacKenzie Meehan, the incredible creative team led by Kathryn Price and Nichole Millard, and our hard-working crew, for bringing to life these innovative stories. We also thank our loyal viewers and look forward to providing them with a final run of compelling episodes filled with the humor, intelligence and twists that have made the drama a fan favorite.” Bull airs Thursday nights at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
