Still, they can’t cover everything. That’s why two anonymous national park enthusiasts took it upon themselves to start building LEGO Versions of national parks, as reported by Outside. The two submitted a proposal for an official national parks set in 2015 to honor and celebrate the centennial of the National Parks Service (NPS). They first started mixing and matching pieces from other sets to create their own scenes because each submission requires 10,000 supporters to be officially considered. The two created the Lego Park Ranger Facebook and Instagram accounts to garner followers. Though their proposal was not a winner, the accounts became so popular that they decided to continue creating and posting. Today, the two continue to show off vignettes of anything managed by the NPS, including park scenes, historic sites, and national monuments. And as their bio notes: “Everyone has a hobby, but some are stranger than others.” They’ve also taken to recreating movie scenes or placing characters from pop culture into park scenes, using humor and relatability to not only entertain but share safety advice, current news, and celebrate a variety of holidays. Unfortunately, these aren’t kits available for purchase. But with a little time and perseverance, you, too, can construct fantastical nature scenes, or anything else you can imagine. The minds behind the Lego Park Ranger told Outsider that oftentimes the most time-consuming part of the project is combing for inspiration—on the days where the ideas are flowing, they say they can’t build fast enough to keep up.
