Although episode 13, titled “The Day of the Wedding,” is centered on an event that is all about Kate, the drama seems to be coming from the other members of the Pearson family. It appears as if Kevin (Justin Hartley) still hasn’t sorted out his messy love life, and may be engaging in a secret—and potentially adulterous?—fling the night before his sister’s nuptials. Meanwhile, Rebecca‘s (Mandy Moore) disease appears to have progressed significantly, rewriting her fuzzy memories to the point where she seems to have forgotten that Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) ever died, putting her husband Miguel (Jon Huertas) in an extremely unpleasant position. Here’s everything we learned from the promo for This Is Us Season 6 Episode 13, “The Day of the Wedding.”

Is there a promo for This Is Us Season 6 Episode 13?

“The Day of the Wedding” is all about—what else?—Kate and Philip’s (Chris Geere) wedding day. This time around, Kate’s daughter Hailey is a flower girl in the outdoor ceremony. “Here we go,” Kate says to Philip, who grins excitedly as he repeats the words back to her.   We then see the Pearson family—minus, confusingly, Randall’s (Sterling K. Brown) children and Kate’s own two kids, but including Madison (Caitlin Thompson), Elijah (Adam Korson) and Kevin’s children—posing for a wedding photo in front of an elegant mansion, looking spiffy on Kate’s big day as we are reminded that there are only six episodes left in the series, and a lot of ground still to cover. Case in point: A voiceover from Madison in which she says conspiratorially, “Kevin is having a secret wedding weekend romance,” as she takes a photo of a bra and a robe slung over the back of a hotel room chair.  “Who do you think he slept with last night?” Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson) asks, as we see Kevin looking at Randall, his expression seeming a bit dour. Whoever it was, it appears that Kevin’s having second thoughts in the light of day, leading us to guess that he hooked up with his (married) ex-wife, Sophie (Alexandra Breckenridge), since obviously, it wasn’t Madison. Another candidate could be Cassidy (JenniferMorrison), who shot down Kevin’s romantic advances earlier in the season, but may have changed her mind in the years since. Although, of course, there’s always the possibility that it merely appears that Kevin slept with someone, when in actuality, something else was going on.  But before we can really process Kevin’s wedding scandal, the preview shifts to Rebecca, who is experiencing a different kind of drama. “I just can’t wait for your father to get here,” Rebecca says as she gets ready for her daughter’s second nuptials. The scene then shifts to the family posing for the outdoor photo as Randall reminds his mother, “Dad hasn’t been with us for a while, remember?” A distraught Rebecca asks back, “Why would you say that?”  (Maybe this is why she’s standing with Kevin, and not her husband Miguel, in the photo?)    Asking about Jack in two different scenes indicates that forgetting Jack’s death is an ongoing issue with Rebecca, which can’t be easy for anyone, especially Miguel. “It is moving fast now,” he tells Randall, seeming agitated. “What’s moving fast?” Randall asks. “All of it!” Miguel responds. We hope that this isn’t why Miguel hasn’t yet been spotted at the cabin in the flash-forwards, since it would be heartbreaking—for them, and for us—for Rebecca to have forgotten the person she trusted most to help her through her final years.

What happened on This Is Us Season 6 Episode 12, “Katoby”?

Episode 12 of This Is Us followed Kate and Toby (Chris Sullivan) over the course of several years as they made the painful decision to end their marriage, and then entered the scary new world of moving on. We saw that although a couple has been at each other‘s throats all season in the present-day timeline, it ultimately takes another couple of years for their marriage to fully unravel. During that time, the two of them enter marriage counseling, although it quickly becomes clear during their increasingly combative therapy sessions that their differences may just be irreconcilable. After making the decision to divorce, Toby moves out their house and into a nearby apartment as they meet with a lawyer who helps them navigate all of the legal particularities of their split. Both Toby and Kate agree that their top priority is making this transition as smooth as possible for their kids, and as the date nears for them to finalize the termination of their marriage, they actually seem to reach a more amicable place with one another. However, what Toby hopes might be an opportunity to reconcile, Kate realizes is simply the two of them being healthier apart than together. On the day they sign their divorce papers, she tells him that this is what is best for both of them, although he doesn’t believe her. After the signing, Kate gets a call from Philip, who invites her on an outing to Koreatown in the hopes that he might be able to cheer her up. Their friendship soon evolves into a romance, and then an engagement, as Philip falls in love with not just Kate, but also her children. The version of Kate we see with Philip is one who has learned from her relationship with Toby to be more direct and confident in who she is and what she wants. Philip, for his part, meets Kate right where she is, offering her the sort of frank honesty that she now expects after realizing what bottled-up feelings can do to a relationship. Eventually, even Toby seems to be won over by their relationship, and we see him and Kate gradually establish a healthy co-parenting dynamic, where they can even spend time together socially from time to time. On Kate’s wedding day, Toby calls to tell her that he finally sees that she was right on the day they got divorced, and that they were, ultimately, meant to be apart. Toby also finds love again after Kate, meeting and ultimately marrying a woman he meets in a coffee shop, although we’re not exactly sure when that happens. In the distant future, once Kate and Toby‘s son Jack (Blake Stadnik) is all grown up, the two of them and their spouses are able to come together to support Jack as he works to establish his music career. Meanwhile, Kevin is still trying to sort out his own love life, dating a string of small-time actresses in an attempt to move on from Madison, who we see winds up happily married to Elijah, with whom she soon has a baby. At Kate’s engagement party, we also see that Rebecca‘s Alzheimer’s is advancing, making us wonder just how many good years she has left.

Are there any spoilers for This Is Us Season 6 Episode 13?

According to This Is Us executive producers and co-showrunners Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, “The Day of the Wedding” will “fill in the blanks of what everyone’s been up to over the last five years,” lending credence to our theory that the remainder of the season will mostly follow the characters after Kate’s wedding, instead of circling back to the events immediately following “Saturday in the Park.”  “It will also really dive into what Rebecca’s illness looks like now that time has marched forward a bit,” Aptaker and Berger told Deadline. But it sounds like we could be waiting a bit to catch up with the Pearsons at the family cabin in Rebecca’s final days again. “I won’t say exactly when we’ll see another flash-forward to the house,” Aptaker and Berger said, “but it’s safe to say it plays a big part in our final stretch of episodes.”  So while we may not get another glimpse into the distant future in “The Day of the Wedding,” we will soon enough.  As This Is Us heads into its final few episodes, here is everything we know about the “beautiful” series finale.
