Times are so desperate that Capt. Sig Hansen has relocated to Karmǿy, Norway, where invasive Red King Crab from Russia offer a temptingly lucrative, but risky new market for the veteran crabber, after a disastrous attempt to keep the fishery open. He says of his move to Norway, “This is the first place I ever fished. This is where my grandfather started fishing, and his father before him. I never thought I would throw lines in my homeland. But after what happened in Alaska, everyone’s got to pick where they’re going to make their last stand. Norway is where I’m going to make mine.” In the first episode of season 18 of Deadliest Catch, in an attempt to save the industry that they worked so hard to create, Johnathan Hillstrand and his partners Josh Harris and Casey McManus chase rising prices for a new species of crab in the Bering Sea. And Capt. Josh Harris makes it clear he isn’t surrendering quite yet when he paraphrases the immortal words of John Paul Jones, declaring, “We have not yet begun to fight!” Deadliest Catch premieres on Tuesday, April 19 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Discovery and will be available to stream the same day on discovery+.
