It’s TikToker @mitchmcconnellsneckskin that’s causing all the fuss. In a now-viral video that’s been viewed more than 1.7 million times, he pauses in the egg aisle of his local grocery store, claiming the eggs that could quite literally win the Miss America beauty pageant stopped him right in his tracks. “Listen, I get it. I like nice things. I have an iPhone. But I’m in the grocery store in the egg aisle and what are these? OK? See all the normal eggs? Then there’s this.” In the hilarious follow-up video America never knew it wanted or needed—which has amassed more than 4.3 million views, BTW—he later unboxes the eggs alongside an Apple charging cord. Of course, don’t be ridiculous—Consider Pasture eggs may be bougie AF but they don’t come with any Apple tech accessories. But still, it’s pretty freaking funny and both videos are causing an avalanche of conversation around the Beyoncé of all egg brands. “Most expensive eggs I’ve ever bought,” the TikToker explains in the sequel to the OG video. “Inside you’ve got your nice eggs. Right here you’ve got your usual ‘designed by Apple in California,’” he jokes. “This one does come with the lightning cable and the Apple stickers but no, uh, charging block.” And America? America is loving it but America also has questions. Lots, in fact. Are those egg yolks made of actual gold? Did the Golden Goose herself from the classic children’s fable lay them on her royal throne? Perhaps more importantly, how much do these bougie eggs cost and where can you get your not-worthy hands on them? Keep reading for all the pertinent info on the eggs perhaps even more memorable (and popular) than the oval beauty that dethroned Kylie Jenner as the most-liked Instagram pic of 2019.

What’s the Deal With Viral ‘Bougie’ Egg Brand Consider Pastures?

“Care, cultivate, and consider.” That’s the three-C’ed tagline of Consider Pastures—the first national egg brand to embrace regenerative farming practices by producing pasture-raised eggs from small family farms, hatched from hens that are held to the Certified Humane Pasture-Raised standards. As such, these hens (and their subsequent eggs) are a part of a strict program that is, according to a recent Consider Pastures press release, “committed to superior animal care” and to “healing our soils through the practices of regenerative agriculture.” If you’re like me and you read that and went, “HUH?,” regenerative agriculture is a specific, sustainable approach to farming and agriculture that prioritizes conservation- and rehabilitation-led approach by focusing on topsoil regeneration, increasing biodiversity, improving the water cycle, and increasing overall resilience to climate change. In layman’s terms, it’s a really good thing—for the planet, the chickens, and the humans (AKA us) who eat the eggs. In an industry with a not-so-glowing reputation when it comes to animal cruelty or sustainability, Consider Pastures is breaking the factory farming model that has become so standard (and so harmful and cruel). With all that healthiness and goodness in one carton of a dozen eggs, Consider Pastures had to come up with a way to be seen on the grocery store shelves. Or else risk literally being shelved. And the hundreds of thousands of TikTok comments and millions of TikTok views can definitely attest: These eggs have certainly been seen. The press release continues, “Even the packaging design—a striking deep blue carton inspired by the first egg carton ever invented in 1911—harkens back to the simpler, common-sense values farmers once lived by.” Paired with the expensive-looking gold-foil design of the Consider Pastures font, that striking deep blue undoubtedly goes against the grain. And in a sea of see-through, plastic egg cartons sure to not be recycled properly, it sure as heck gets our attention! But as we all know, what matters is on the inside, too. Gorgeous, statement packaging aside, Consider Pastures’ website proclaims that consumers are sure to notice a difference in the quality of their eggs. No, there’s no Apple charger included and no, no yolks made of pure gold, but Consider Pastures maintains, “If you’ve cracked open one of ours, you probably noticed that there’s something different about the speckled beauties tucked into our cartons. From intensely hued amber yolks to substantial whites and thick, strong shells, Consider Pastures Eggs represent the pinnacle of quality.”

Where to Buy the Bougiest Eggs on TikTok?

If you find yourself absolutely convinced of Consider Pastures eggs’ undeniable superiority, then you may be wondering where on Earth to buy these things. It’s clear from the original video, that our beloved, observant TikToker is standing in a Whole Foods. And it’s true—Consider Pastures eggs can be found at your local Whole Foods (though availability may vary). And from a bouge-tastic standpoint, that does make a whole lot of sense. But Whole Foods isn’t actually the only store that carries Consider Pastures. You may be able to find these stunning eggs at a Stop & Shop, Ingles, Shaws, Harris Teeter, and Hannaford. Some natural-food grocers and co-ops may also carry Consider Pastures as well, but you’ll have to check with your local store. Can’t find ’em on the shelves? How Much Do the TikTok Eggs Cost?

While the TikTok eggs—AKA Consider Pastures eggs—will undoubtedly vary in availability based on location and of course, the current supply-and-demand issues sweeping the nation (a la coronavirus), these eggs will also likely vary in price. The TikToker from the original vid stated that he paid $8.99 for his carton of eggs, but it seems to be on the higher end of the spectrum. According to Consider Pastures, the eggs can cost anywhere from $4.99 to $8.99 and are distributed nationally. If your gut reaction is “ooo, that’s pricey,” eh—you’re kinda right. Right now, with costs of inflation taken into consideration, egg prices are definitely up in general but if you’re paying $8.99 for Consider Pastures, then you’re definitely paying the max. According to this week’s USDA Egg Market Report, eggs in New York are up 6 total cents for larger sizes and 5 cents for medium. Regionally, the report found eggs to—in general—be priced anywhere from 20.5 to 39 cents higher for Extra Large and Large egg options. All of this is to say, of course, that if your version of living life to the fullest is springing for the most expensive (probably healthiest and held to the highest of standards) egg, then you better whip out that credit card and make a TikTok of you scrambling your morning Consider Pastures.
