Omer Majid, a YouTube personality known for his pranks, was reported to have broken into the set for the British reality series, currently filming its seventh season. His Instagram stories from before the break-in suggest he had been in Mallorca, where the Love Island villa is located. British tabloid The Sun also secured footage of the incident, which saw Majid being accosted by someone telling him he’s trespassing, then being escorted off the premises. After the fact, Majid told The Daily Star that he was able to find a weak point in security through the trees and hills that surround the villa. “They spotted my cameraman,” he added, “and told him to get out. I then ran for the villa and called my friend so he could put me back on the live stream. They put code red on which meant locking everybody up that was cast.” The intrusion is particularly perturbing for this season’s contestants, considering the villa is supposed to exist in a COVID-free “bubble.” Luckily for the Islanders, allegedly Majid did not get into contact with any of the contestants continuing to keep them quarantined. “As part of our stringent COVID safety measures,” a Love Island spokeswoman said in a statement, “the Villa area that was trespassed has been fully deep cleaned before being made accessible again to the Islanders and crew.” She went on to say that the safety and health of their cast and crew remains their primary concern. In response to that, Lifted Entertainment, a producer on the series, has allegedly beefed up security measures after the break-in. Hopefully the Islanders and Love Island U.K. will be able to move on and focus on finding romance without thinking too much about the outside world coming in.
